Tips

Cleaning the Coins

When the coins are kept for a long period, they need to be cleaned from time to time because they darken over time. You can just clean the coins by a pencil eraser, Just pass the eraser on the coins with some patience. You will definitely be surprised with the results, because they are clean and thoroughly cleaned.

If you have some ugly looking and old coins and do not like to use products harmful to the environment, here's a hint to the reach of anyone with the particularity of being very cheap. Put coins in a clean container with vinegar, so they are fully covered. Leave it on for a few minutes. Now rinse and note the result. Like new! If the coins have verdigris, then must pass a piece of flannel with a little almond oil and rub. They are clean.

In my country, the dishwashers (machines) are not used commonly by all the people. Yhey use certain dish washer soaps or powders (like detergents) for cleaning the kitchen ware. I have used these soaps for cleaning, They have some very tiny solid granules and i found them very efficient really in cleaning the coins surface. It removes even very tough clusters by just rubbing the coins slightly with their paste, but you have to do it carefully, it may also damage the surface if rubbed vigorously without checking it in time. I recommend these dish wash bars have the best efficiency in cleaning the coins manually.

Britain converted to Decimal Coinage System in 1971, effected in all its dependencies too where it was not earlier like Channel islands and the Isle of Man. "New Penny" was the term used for pennies after it. The word "NEW" was dropped later and replaced with denomination (Numeral in English). This change took place at different time in different dependencies, 1976 in Isle of Man, 1977 in Guernsey, 1981 in Jersey, 1982 in UK coins itself. These coins with/without the word "New" should be observed carefully. Here is yet another factor to be noted that most of the Great Britain's Overseas Dependencies (Island mostly) running Sterling Coinage did not have their own coinage before it. So they never had some "New Penny" like Falkland, Gibraltar, St. Helena.
